Are presets cheating?

They are a starting point, which is how working photographers use them. A preset gets a set to a consistent base in one pass, and the per-image work after that is exposure and local adjustments. The mistake is shipping one preset unchanged across images shot in different light.

Subscription or one-time purchase?

One-time suits a stable workflow and an older camera. A subscription mainly buys support for new cameras and improving automatic masking, which is where most recent progress has been. Check that your files still open if you stop paying.

What actually speeds up a large edit?

Culling before editing, then editing one reference image per lighting setup and syncing it across the rest. Most of the time goes on revisiting decisions rather than making them.

Retouching, presets and batch edits for shoots you turn around yourself.

18 tools in this category.

Editing your own shoots is a volume problem before it is a taste problem. One image is quick. Four hundred from the same lighting is where batch tools, presets and masking earn their price, and where the differences show up: how fast a large set moves, how good the automatic selections are, and whether you pay once or every year.
