Affinity

Affinity is three professional applications in one window: a pixel editor, a vector editor and a page layout tool, with no round trip between them. Canva bought it and made it free, which is the largest thing to happen to paid creative software in years. Files from the Adobe applications open with their layers intact.

Nothing, for individuals. Canva bought Affinity and made the whole thing free, and the FAQ leaves no wriggle room about what that covers: every tool in all three studios, all customisation, all export features, with no restrictions. The one gated part is Canva's AI tools inside Affinity, which need a Canva premium plan. There is a separate enterprise offering for organisations that want licensing and support.

Anybody who has been paying a monthly fee for image editing and does not need the parts of that subscription they never open. Teams tied to Adobe by shared files and plugins will still find those hard to leave, and the enterprise route exists for them.
