FundRazr runs a campaign page with no monthly cost, and pays for itself either by asking your donors for an optional tip or by asking them to cover the platform fee. Both choices are yours and you can switch mid-campaign. It leans toward memorials, medical costs and community causes rather than product launches.

There is no monthly, yearly or setup cost. Under Optional Tips the only deduction is payment processing at 2.9 percent plus 30 cents, and FundRazr asks your donors for a tip instead. Under Fee Recovery your donors are asked to cover the platform fee as well, and the page states that 85 to 95 percent of them do, leaving the average campaign with 98.5 percent of what was raised. The platform fee itself is the one number the page does not print, so ask before switching models.

Somebody raising money for a person or a cause who cannot afford to lose a percentage of it, and whose donors will not mind being asked to cover the fee. A product launch wanting pre-order mechanics and a backer community should be looking at Kickstarter or BackerKit.
