Whimsical draws flowcharts, wireframes, mind maps and sticky-note boards in one file type rather than four applications, and it opts for speed over precision: shapes snap, connectors route themselves, and a diagram is finished before a general drawing tool has been configured. Only editors are billed, and viewers are free on every tier including the free one. Guests, team count and file size are what separate the plans. Anybody wanting pixel-exact control over a diagram will find the automatic routing gets in the way.
The free plan covers unlimited workspace members, three team boards, three teams, ten guests, uploads to 5 MB and a week of version history. Pro is $10 an editor a month with unlimited boards, private teams, fifty guests, 1 GB uploads, ninety days of history and admin roles. Business at $20 adds SSO, SCIM and unlimited teams. Viewers are free throughout, and two free workspaces can be held at once.
Somebody who diagrams to think rather than to publish, where getting a flow onto the screen in two minutes matters more than controlling how it looks. Product and engineering teams are the natural fit, particularly where many people read the diagrams and few draw them. Anybody who needs a diagram to match an exact specification will be fighting the automatic routing, and a general drawing tool is the better answer.
The free tier is unusually workable, so start there and upgrade when the three-board limit bites rather than on principle. Compare with Miro only if you need an infinite canvas for workshops, because this is faster for structured diagrams and worse for a wall of sticky notes.
