Submagic takes a clip and gives it back captioned in the style short-form audiences now expect, with the emphasised words coloured and the timing tight against the audio. Cutting a long recording into clips is a paid add-on rather than the base product, which is the thing to check before comparing it with Opus Clip. Three watermarked videos a month are free, which is enough to see whether the caption style suits your face.

The free tier is three videos a month, up to 200 MB and a minute and a half, watermarked. Starter is $19 a member a month, or $12 billed annually, for 15 videos of up to two minutes. Pro is $39 or $23 for 40 videos of up to five minutes. Business is $69 or $41 for 100 videos of up to thirty, and is the tier the API allowance is named against. Magic Clips adds $19 to the monthly price of whichever plan you pick.

Anybody posting vertical clips several times a week who is captioning them by hand. If you already pay for a clipper that captions, this is a second bill for one job, and the useful question is which of the two you would keep.
