ScreenPal records the screen, edits what it recorded and hosts the result on a page you can send to somebody, which is three products most tools split up. The editor handles the things a tutorial actually needs, captions and callouts and cutting the dead air, without turning into a timeline that has to be learned. It was Screencast-O-Matic for years and the price has stayed in the same place. Anybody wanting cinema-grade output is in the wrong shop.
The free plan is permanent and includes an ad-free player, which is unusual at that price. Deluxe is $4 a month and opens up full capture and editing. Max at $10 adds interactivity and the AI features. Business is $8 per user a month and is the team plan rather than a cheaper individual one, so read it as a different product. The gap worth understanding is between free and Deluxe: the free tier is genuinely usable for sharing, and the four dollars is what turns it into something you can edit properly.
Somebody making instructional video regularly and casually: a course author, a support team, a teacher, anybody explaining software to people who did not ask for a film. The appeal is that four dollars covers capture, editing and hosting together. A creator whose output is the video itself, where the edit is the craft rather than the overhead, will outgrow the editor quickly.
This was Screencast-O-Matic and it kept the pricing it built its reputation on, which is why it keeps beating tools that do less for more. Start on the free tier and only move up when the recording length or the editing limits actually stop you.
