Procreate is the drawing app most illustrators on an iPad already own, and it is bought once rather than rented. The brush engine is the reason: it responds to pressure and tilt closely enough that people who trained on paper stop noticing the screen. Animation, perspective guides and a time-lapse recording of every session come with it, and that last one has quietly become how artists prove a piece is theirs. It runs on iPad only, and the company has said plainly that it will not add generative image tools.
One payment of $12.99 through the App Store, with no subscription and no account to create. There is a separate desktop product sold on its own terms. Updates within the version are free, and the vendor states the price on its own site rather than leaving it to the store listing.

If you draw on an iPad, this is the default and the price is not a trick. The one thing to check before buying is that it is iPad only, which catches people who expected a Mac version.
