WeTransfer sends a large file to somebody who does not want to install anything, sign up for anything or be walked through a shared drive. That is the entire product and it has been for years. The free tier moves 3 GB a month across ten transfers, and paying removes the size limit, the expiry and the ten.
The free tier moves up to 3 GB a month across ten transfers, expiring after three days, and the page marks it for individual non-commercial use only. The paid individual plan is $25 a month billed monthly and removes the size limit, the transfer count and the expiry, adding custom branding, recovery of expired transfers and malware scanning. A Teams tier sits above it. That non-commercial wording on the free tier is the part to read if you are sending client work.
Anybody delivering large files to clients who will not install a sync tool: video editors, photographers, designers. It is a delivery tool rather than storage, so anybody wanting a permanent library should be looking at Dropbox or pCloud.
For occasional delivery the free tier is the whole product and always has been. The paid plan is worth it only when clients see the transfer page often enough for the branding to matter, or when files routinely run past a couple of gigabytes.
