Rive is the one to reach for when the animation has to respond to something rather than play. A state machine is built alongside the artwork, and runtimes drop the result into a real product. For a creator that mostly means website and app work rather than video, and the learning curve is closer to a design tool than to a filter.
Free covers three collaborative files and the full editor. Cadet is $9 a seat a month with monthly and yearly options. The runtimes are open source and free to use, so the subscription buys collaboration and file count rather than the ability to ship.
A creator whose work lands in a product: an app onboarding, an interactive site, a game. Anybody exporting a finished video file at the end of the process wants Jitter or a video tool, because interactivity is the thing being paid for here.
Rive and Jitter get compared and should not be. Jitter makes a video; Rive makes a thing that reacts. If nobody is going to click it, Rive is the harder tool for no gain.
