Revive Adserver is software you install on your own hosting, so it does the counting rather than the selling. Campaigns, zones, targeting and delivery reports all live on a server you control, which means nothing sits between you and the advertiser and nothing takes a share of what you invoice. Setting it up is a PHP application and a database, and that is a real afternoon of work. Publishers who have already sold the slot are who this is for.
The download edition has no price on it anywhere: the site heads itself as a free open source ad server and offers the software outright. What that leaves is hosting, and the project states its own hosted edition costs as low as $10 a month for anybody who would rather not run a server. The cost that does not appear on the page is your time, since an upgrade path and a database backup are now yours. There is no trial, because nothing is being sold.
A publisher who already has advertisers and wants the counting done independently, plus somebody comfortable maintaining a PHP application. The whole argument for this over a network is that you keep the money, which only holds if the selling is a job you were doing anyway. Anybody hoping software will fill their inventory should read the ad network listings instead, and accept the revenue split that comes with them.
Budget for the maintenance rather than the licence. The software is free and the ongoing work is not, so this pays off for a site running ads continuously and rarely for one selling a sponsorship a quarter. If the server side is the objection, AdButler and Broadstreet do the same job as a subscription.
