Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro cuts video on Mac and iPad with the magnetic timeline that people either move to it for or bounce off, and it is tuned hard for Apple silicon, which is why it renders quickly on machines that struggle elsewhere. Apple now sells it two ways: inside a subscription bundle alongside Motion, Compressor and Logic Pro, or as the one-time purchase it has always been. The subscription is where new premium content lands. Nothing here runs on Windows, and no project opens anywhere else.

Apple Creator Studio is $12.99 a month or $129 a year and bundles Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad with Motion, Compressor and Logic Pro, after a 30-day trial. Students and educators pay $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. Final Cut Pro is also sold outright at $299.99, and Apple states that route will remain, that existing owners keep receiving updates, and that some premium content is subscription-only.

An editor already on a Mac who cuts enough footage that render speed shows up in the working day, and who prefers a timeline that manages its own gaps. Buying it once suits anybody who resents subscriptions and does not need the newest content. Nobody on Windows can use it, and no project file opens anywhere else, which makes it a poor choice for a mixed team.
