Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
Vimeo offers a free basic plan and then three gradual tiers, Starter at $12 a month billed annually for 2TB, Standard at $25 with player branding and lead capture, and Advanced at $75 with live events. Wistia gives away 25GB for one user free, then jumps straight to $79 a month for Business, with nothing priced in between and lead capture held back until that tier. Vimeo reaches lead capture and more storage for far less. Wistia's price buys per-viewer heatmap analytics that Vimeo does not describe matching.

Video hosting with a player nobody advertises on
Vimeo is where a video goes when it has to sit on your own site without YouTube's suggestions appearing over the end of it. The player is customisable, privacy controls are real, and the review tools are decent. Its audience discovery never materialised, so treat it as hosting rather than as a place people will find you.

Video hosting for video your own site depends on
Wistia puts video on your pages with a player you control and analytics counted per viewer rather than per view, which is the difference between hosting and uploading to YouTube. Heatmaps show the second people stop watching. It is priced for a company rather than for one person, and the step from free to $79 is where most creators make their decision.
Our note
The price is the whole argument. Wistia earns $79 a month when video is doing sales work and the heatmaps change what gets made next; when it is doing brand work, host it free somewhere and spend the difference on the edit.
Choose Vimeo if lead capture and a gradual price climb matter: Standard at $25 a month adds player branding and lead capture, a quarter of Wistia's price for a comparable feature, and Starter's 2TB at $12 a month is far more storage than Wistia's free tier gives. Real privacy controls and timestamped review comments round out a plan that covers hosting and light collaboration in one place.
Choose Wistia if per-viewer heatmap analytics are the actual point, showing the exact second somebody stopped watching rather than just a view count: Business is $79 a month, and the jump from the 25GB free plan is steep with nothing priced between them. It earns that price when video is doing sales work and the data changes what gets made next; for brand work, host free elsewhere and spend the difference on the edit.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
