Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
Chuffed and FundRazr both cost nothing to launch and both fund themselves by asking the donor rather than the campaign. Chuffed keeps this simple: a 0 percent platform fee, always, with an optional tip the donor can decline. FundRazr offers a choice: Optional Tips, which leaves only payment processing on the campaign, or Fee Recovery, which also asks donors to cover the platform fee itself, and states that 85 to 95 percent do, leaving the average campaign with 98.5 percent of what was raised. FundRazr lets you switch between the two mid-campaign; Chuffed only ever runs the one model.

Crowdfunding that takes no cut of the total
Chuffed charges the campaign nothing and asks the donor for an optional tip instead, so the whole donation reaches the project once the card fee is paid. That model suits causes and community projects, which is most of what is on there. A creator funding a commercial product will find the audience is not looking for one.
Crowdfunding that charges the donor, not you
FundRazr runs a campaign page with no monthly cost, and pays for itself either by asking your donors for an optional tip or by asking them to cover the platform fee. Both choices are yours and you can switch mid-campaign. It leans toward memorials, medical costs and community causes rather than product launches.
Our note
The honest comparison here is Zeffy, which charges nothing at all and covers the card fees too. FundRazr is the better answer if you are not a registered nonprofit, which is what Zeffy asks for at signup.
Only on this side
Choose Chuffed for the simpler promise: a 0 percent platform fee that never changes, with no second model to configure or explain to donors. It suits a cause or community project where the ask is straightforward and you would rather not decide between two fee structures.
Choose FundRazr if the flexibility of switching fee models mid-campaign is worth the extra decision. Optional Tips keeps only payment processing, 2.9 percent plus 30 cents, off the campaign; Fee Recovery pushes further and reaches a stated average of 98.5 percent kept, though FundRazr does not publish the underlying platform fee rate that Fee Recovery is calculated from. Ask directly before switching if the exact number matters to you.
