Running the business
Brand24 is a monitoring specialist: it watches news, blogs, forums, podcasts and social for a keyword and alerts you with sentiment attached, at $199 a month with no free tier. Hootsuite bundles scheduling, a unified inbox and brand monitoring into one subscription built for a team managing many accounts, at $99 a user a month for ten accounts. A single person actually pays less on Hootsuite's entry tier, but that price is per user, and Brand24's does not multiply the same way when a second person joins.

Alerts when your name turns up anywhere
Brand24 watches social networks, news, blogs, forums and podcasts for a keyword and tells you when it moves, with sentiment and reach attached. For a creator that is the difference between hearing about a video that mentioned you and not. The entry plan is priced for a business rather than for a person, which is the honest reason most individuals stop at the trial.
Our note
The API costing extra on every tier is the detail buried furthest down the page, and it changes the total for anybody planning to pipe mentions elsewhere. For a solo creator, a saved search and an alert do most of this for nothing.

Scheduling and monitoring for ten accounts up
Hootsuite schedules posts, answers messages from one inbox and monitors what is being said about a brand and its competitors, which is the combination that keeps it in agencies and marketing teams. The entry plan covers ten social accounts for one person; the tier above lifts that to unlimited and adds inbox automation. Analytics and approval workflows are what the upper plans are actually sold on. It is priced per user per month, so a second person on the account roughly doubles it.
Pick Brand24 if monitoring is the whole job: watching where a name gets mentioned across the web beyond just social, with sentiment, reach and influencer scoring attached. It costs $199 a month regardless of how many people log in, and API access is a further $99 on any tier, which is worth adding before comparing totals.
Pick Hootsuite if scheduling and a shared inbox matter as much as monitoring, and an agency or marketing team needs approval workflows across up to ten, then unlimited, social accounts. Standard is $99 a user a month, cheaper than Brand24 for one person, but a second person roughly doubles the bill, and a solo creator posting to two or three accounts is paying agency rates for what a plain scheduler would do for less.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The per-user pricing is what to model, because a second person roughly doubles the bill and that is where this stops competing with the cheaper schedulers. Choose it when monitoring and approvals are requirements rather than nice to have, and choose almost anything else when they are not.
