Making the work

Running the business
ActiveCampaign automates a sequence around a CRM, from $15 a month with Starter capped at five actions. Mailmodo renders a form, poll or booking widget inside the email itself so a reader submits without a second click, from $27 a month billed annually. Where a mail client blocks that, Mailmodo falls back to a normal link. The decision is not automation depth but whether interactive email is worth paying for, which depends entirely on what mail clients your own readers actually use.

Email automation with a CRM underneath it
ActiveCampaign is what people move to when the sequences outgrow a newsletter tool, and its conditional logic goes deeper than anything at this price. The CRM underneath means a sponsor conversation and a subscriber record are the same object. It takes a weekend to learn, and the cheapest plan caps automations at five actions, which is not enough to try the thing it is good at.
Our note
Budget for Plus rather than Starter. The five-action cap on the cheapest plan blocks exactly the branching logic that justifies choosing ActiveCampaign over a newsletter tool, and discovering that after migrating a list is a bad afternoon.
Emails a reader can fill in without leaving
Mailmodo sends interactive email: a form, a poll or a booking widget renders inside the message and submits from there, so a survey does not need a landing page and a click. Where a mail client refuses that, it falls back to an ordinary email with a link. Campaigns, journeys and the interactive blocks sit in one builder. The interactive part is the whole reason to pay, so it is worth checking whether the audience reads mail somewhere that supports it before committing.
Choose ActiveCampaign for branching automation and a CRM that ties a subscriber to a deal, at $15 a month for Starter or $49 for Plus once the five-action cap gets in the way. It sends a reader to a landing page rather than rendering anything inside the email itself, which is the entire feature Mailmodo is built around.
Choose Mailmodo if a survey, RSVP or poll completed inside the message would raise your response rate, at $27 a month billed annually. Check where your list actually opens mail first, because clients that refuse interactivity fall back to an ordinary email with a link, which is what ActiveCampaign already sends by default.
Ratings are the average of reviews readers left. The facts are stated by each tool’s own listing and are not verified by CloutStack. How we make money.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
Check where your readers actually open mail before buying, because the interactive rendering is the product and the fallback is a normal email with a link. If most of your list is on a client that supports it, the response-rate gain is real and easily worth $27.
