Sendy is a PHP application you install on your own server, which then sends through Amazon SES at Amazon's rates rather than at a newsletter platform's. You buy the software once. At a list size where a hosted platform starts charging hundreds a month, the arithmetic is what people come for, and the cost is that hosting, deliverability and upgrades are now yours.
The software is a one-time $69. Two optional extras are priced separately: an AI assistant bundle at $39, reduced from $49, and an installation service at $79 if you would rather not do it yourself. Sending is billed by Amazon rather than by Sendy, and the site quotes it as $1 per ten thousand emails in one place and $1.60 in another, so treat the exact rate as something to check with Amazon. Updates are free within a major version, with new major versions charged again.
Somebody with a large list, a server they already run and a tolerance for maintaining things. If the phrase Apache virtual host means nothing to you, the money saved will be spent on the afternoon this takes to set up, and MailerLite is the honest recommendation instead.
The arithmetic only works above roughly ten thousand subscribers, and below that a hosted platform is cheaper once your time is counted. Check the Amazon SES sending limits before buying, because a new SES account starts in a sandbox that will not send to the public.
