Runway is where the frontier video models arrive with a timeline attached, so a generated shot can be trimmed, upscaled and cut against footage you filmed. Credits are the unit of everything, and they go faster than the plan names suggest. Read the credit cost per second before picking a tier, because the gap between plans is nothing like the gap between prices.
The free plan gives 125 credits once, which is enough for a look rather than a project. Standard is $15 a month for 625 credits, Pro is $35 for 2,250 and adds voice cloning and 500GB of storage, and Max is $95 for 9,500 with credits that roll over a month. Annual billing takes about 20 percent off. The number that matters is not the plan price but the credit cost per generation, which the pricing page lists per model: at 60 credits for five seconds of Gen-4.5, the Standard plan is about 52 seconds of finished video a month.
A creator making stylised or impossible shots who already knows how to edit, and studios prototyping before a real shoot. Anybody who needs the same character to look identical in twenty shots is still going to be disappointed.
Work out how many seconds of your chosen model each plan buys before subscribing, because the answer is usually smaller than the credit numbers suggest. Runway is the right pick when the shot cannot be filmed. For talking-head video from a script, Synthesia and HeyGen cost less and do it better.
