Growing an audience
Running the business
QuillBot pairs a multi-mode paraphraser, formal, simple, expanded, shortened, with a grammar checker, a plagiarism check and a citation generator, at $8.33 a month billed annually. Wordtune does one narrower job: give it a sentence and it hands back alternatives, shorter, longer, more casual, more formal, from $6.99 a month billed annually with a three-day trial on the paid tiers. QuillBot is the wider toolkit built for students. Wordtune is for a writer who gets stuck on a single sentence and needs it to land.

Paraphrasing and grammar checks in one place
QuillBot started as a paraphraser and grew a grammar checker, a summariser, a citation generator and a plagiarism check around it. Students are the core audience and the pricing says so, but the rewriting modes are the fastest way to loosen a paragraph that came out stiff. The free tier caps how much text each tool will take at once rather than how often you use it.
Our note
Against Grammarly this is the cheaper option and the better rewriter; Grammarly is the better proofreader and has the wider integrations. If the problem is that a sentence reads badly rather than that it is wrong, this is the one to try.
Rewrites a sentence into ten other sentences
Wordtune is narrower than the tools that write from a brief: you give it a sentence you already wrote and it hands back alternatives, shorter, longer, more casual, more formal. That makes it useful to people who can write and get stuck, rather than to people who want a draft produced. The free plan allows a few rewrites a day and the trial on the paid ones runs three days.
Choose QuillBot if you want more than phrasing help: a citation generator and a plagiarism check on the same $8.33-a-month bill matter to anybody writing for school. The free plan holds real word caps per tool rather than a countdown, so it stays usable while you decide.
Choose Wordtune if you can already write and just stall on one sentence at a time, including as a non-native English speaker checking that a line lands the way it was meant to. Advanced starts at $6.99 a month billed annually with a three-day trial, short enough that deciding what to test matters before starting it. Anybody who wants a citation list or a plagiarism check should buy QuillBot instead, since Wordtune offers neither.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The three-day trial is the shortest in this category, so decide what you want to check before starting it. What this does better than the general assistants is rewrite a sentence you already care about, which is a real and narrow use.
