Running the business
PostHog bundles product analytics with session replay, feature flags and surveys, billed by usage: the first million events a month are free, with no stated cap on sites or users. Simple Analytics is a single page-view dashboard, free on Hobby for five websites and one user with a badge on the page, then $20 a month starting at 100,000 pageviews, with every extra user costing another $20. PostHog answers what a product team needs to know about behavior. Simple Analytics answers what a page got read, on one screen, for people who never wanted the rest.

Product analytics billed by the event
PostHog bundles product analytics, session replay, feature flags and surveys and bills each of them by usage rather than by seat, so a team of ten costs the same as a team of one at the same volume. The first million events each month cost nothing, and that allowance survives an upgrade. Billing limits can be set per product, which is the guard against a viral week arriving as an invoice. The event rates are quoted to five decimal places, so working out a monthly figure takes arithmetic rather than reading.
Our note
Set the billing limits on day one rather than after the first spike, because usage pricing is only comfortable when it has a ceiling you chose. If all you need is page views and referrers, Plausible or Fathom will answer that for a flat fee and far less setup.
Website numbers on a single page
Simple Analytics is one dashboard with no setup behind it, aimed at somebody who wants to know what people read and has no intention of building funnels. No cookies, no consent banner and hosting inside the EU are the three things it leads with. Pageview volume sets the price and extra users cost the same again each. Hobby sites are free if the badge stays on the page.
Choose PostHog if you need more than page views: session replay, feature flags and surveys sit on the same bill, billed by usage rather than by seat, so a team of ten costs what a team of one costs at the same volume. The first million events a month are free on every plan, including after upgrading, which covers a small site or an early product completely. Its own listing admits that if page views and referrers are genuinely all you need, a flat-fee tool answers that with far less setup.
Choose Simple Analytics if the question is only which pages get read and where visitors came from, on one screen with no configuration: Hobby is free for five websites and one user as long as the badge stays visible. Self-serve starts at $20 a month at 100,000 pageviews, but extra users cost $20 each, the same as the base plan, so it gets expensive fast for a team. There are no funnels, no session replay and no feature flags here, on purpose.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The per-user price matching the base price is unusual and makes this expensive for a team of three, so it is at its best for one person. The free hobby tier is a genuine offer rather than a trial, and for a personal site the badge is a fair trade.
