Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
Pictory turns a script, article or webinar recording into a video built from stock footage, captions and a synthetic voice, priced in video minutes a year: Starter is $25 a month billed annually for 2,400 minutes. Runway generates the footage itself with frontier video models, credits burning fast enough that Standard's $15 a month covers roughly 52 seconds of finished Gen-4.5 video. Pictory assembles existing footage around your words. Runway invents the footage, for a shot nobody could film.

Turns a script or a blog post into a video
Pictory takes text, a script, an article, a webinar recording, and assembles a video from stock footage, captions and a synthetic voice. Nobody would call the result cinematic, and for a training clip or a summary of a post it is the difference between publishing and not. Plans are counted in video minutes a year, so the question is how much you intend to produce rather than which features you need.
Our note
The gap between the annual and monthly rates here is larger than usual, so committing for a year is most of the value proposition. Use the fourteen days on your actual source material rather than the samples, because the quality depends entirely on how well stock footage matches your subject.
Only on this side
Generative video with an editor around it
Runway is where the frontier video models arrive with a timeline attached, so a generated shot can be trimmed, upscaled and cut against footage you filmed. Credits are the unit of everything, and they go faster than the plan names suggest. Read the credit cost per second before picking a tier, because the gap between plans is nothing like the gap between prices.
Choose Pictory if the source material already exists as text or a recording and the deliverable is a training clip or a summary video at volume: Starter is $25 a month billed annually, or $29 month to month, for 2,400 video minutes and 720 voice minutes a year. Nobody would call the result cinematic, since it is built from stock footage matched to your sentences. A creator making one polished video a week will find that look limiting fast.
Choose Runway if the shot could not be filmed at all and you already know how to edit: Standard is $15 a month for 625 credits, but the number that actually matters is the credit cost per second, about 60 credits for five seconds on Gen-4.5, closer to 52 seconds of finished video a month than the price suggests. It has no script-to-video assembly and no stock footage library; generation is the whole product. For talking-head video from a script, Pictory or a dedicated avatar tool costs less and fits the job better.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
Work out how many seconds of your chosen model each plan buys before subscribing, because the answer is usually smaller than the credit numbers suggest. Runway is the right pick when the shot cannot be filmed. For talking-head video from a script, Synthesia and HeyGen cost less and do it better.
