Running the business
Payoneer solves getting paid from outside your own country: receiving accounts in currencies you do not bank in, free into your own local currency or 1 percent otherwise, with no monthly fee. Relay solves what happens to the money once it has arrived: twenty checking accounts to split it by purpose, free on the Starter plan, with fifty cards and accounting integrations included. Payoneer is about the payment crossing a border. Relay is about the money staying organized once it lands.

Get paid by a marketplace in another country
Payoneer gives you receiving accounts in currencies you do not bank in, which is how a creator paid by a marketplace, a network or a brand abroad gets the money without losing a chunk to their own bank. There is no monthly fee. The cost is per movement, and the rate depends entirely on how the payer sends it, so the same invoice can arrive free or at nearly four percent. Reading the fee table before choosing how to be paid is the whole trick.
Our note
Ask clients to send bank transfers rather than card payments, because the same invoice costs 1 percent one way and close to 4 percent the other. Wise is the comparison worth running for straightforward client work; Payoneer's advantage is the marketplaces that pay into it natively.

Business banking with twenty checking accounts
Relay's difference is that it hands you twenty checking accounts rather than one, which is what makes envelope budgeting work on a business rather than on a spreadsheet beside it. Income splits on arrival: tax here, contractors there, what is left is yours. It also issues a stack of cards and connects to the usual bookkeeping tools. The free plan is a real account rather than a trial.
Choose Payoneer if the problem is a marketplace, network or brand paying you in a currency your own bank does not hold: a bank transfer into a receiving account costs 1 percent, and your own local currency costs nothing, both cheaper than a domestic bank converting a wire. It has no checking accounts, cards or envelope budgeting of its own; the money still needs somewhere to live once it arrives, which is what Relay is for.
Choose Relay once the money has landed and needs splitting by purpose: tax here, contractors there, what is left is yours, across twenty checking accounts on a Starter plan that costs nothing and is a real account rather than a trial. Fifty cards and accounting integrations come with it. It does not receive foreign-currency payments the way Payoneer does, so a creator paid from abroad still needs a tool like Payoneer feeding into it.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The free tier is the one most creators should be on, because the paid features are approval workflows for teams and a better savings rate that only matters on a balance large enough to notice. If the interest rate is what tempts you, work out the difference on your actual balance before paying $360 a year for it.
