Running the business
Moosend is a hosted subscription with automation, segmentation and landing pages bundled in, no free plan, then $7 a month billed annually after a 30 day trial. Sendy is self-hosted software bought once for $69, sending through Amazon SES at roughly $1 to $1.60 per 10,000 emails. Moosend needs no setup at all and stays cheap at the entry price. Sendy costs more effort to run, a server and Amazon SES configured yourself, but becomes the cheaper option at real volume once the one-time purchase is paid off.

Email marketing with automation on every plan
Moosend puts automation, segmentation and landing pages on its single paid tier rather than staging them across four, so the price rises with list size instead of with features. Subscribers are the meter. A thirty-day trial runs without a card, which is longer than most of this category offers and long enough to migrate a list and actually send. There is no permanent free plan underneath it, so the trial is a deadline rather than a fallback.
Our note
The absence of a free plan is the thing to notice, because everything else here is priced like a tool that has one. Take the trial seriously and migrate a real list during it, since a half-hearted look will not tell you whether the automation is what you needed.
Self hosted sending on top of Amazon SES
Sendy is a PHP application you install on your own server, which then sends through Amazon SES at Amazon's rates rather than at a newsletter platform's. You buy the software once. At a list size where a hosted platform starts charging hundreds a month, the arithmetic is what people come for, and the cost is that hosting, deliverability and upgrades are now yours.
Pick Moosend if you want a hosted tool with automation and landing pages included, and no server to think about. Pro is $7 a month billed annually, with a 30 day trial long enough to migrate a real list before deciding, though the meter never really stops once you commit.
Pick Sendy if the list has grown large enough that a recurring subscription has become real money, and you are willing to run a server and set up Amazon SES yourself. Sixty nine dollars once is the entire software cost, and Sendy's own listing puts the crossover at roughly ten thousand subscribers, above which the arithmetic clearly favours it.
Ratings are the average of reviews readers left. The facts are stated by each tool’s own listing and are not verified by CloutStack. How we make money.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The arithmetic only works above roughly ten thousand subscribers, and below that a hosted platform is cheaper once your time is counted. Check the Amazon SES sending limits before buying, because a new SES account starts in a sandbox that will not send to the public.
