Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
Honeycommb builds a community under your own brand, from $24.99 a month for the first hundred members plus a 5 percent transaction fee, with a branded app available as a costly add-on. Skool deliberately offers no branding or customization at all: a plain forum and course player for $9 a month at a 10 percent cut, or $99 a month at 2.9 percent. The axis is whether the space should look like yours. Honeycommb is built to be branded, and Skool's flatness is stated as the product rather than a missing feature.

A branded social network for one community
Honeycommb builds a private social network under your name rather than a forum, with a feed, profiles and posts that behave the way members already expect. Pricing is by how many people have registered, not by which features you want, so the whole product is on the cheapest tier. Branded iOS and Android apps are a separate add-on with its own launch fee, and that is the line item most budgets trip over.
Our note
Read the add-on column before the plan column, because the apps cost more than ten times the entry subscription and they are the reason most people arrive here. Without them this is Circle at several times the price.
Community, courses and a calendar in one paid space
Skool puts a forum, a course player and events behind one membership. The interface is deliberately plain, which keeps people posting, and there is very little customization by design. Both plans take a percentage of what members pay, which is the part of the pricing that has changed most since Skool launched.
Choose Honeycommb if the community needs to look like your own brand rather than a shared template, and $24.99 a month for the first hundred members is worth it for that. A dedicated app is available but expensive, $299 a month plus a $1,499 launch fee, so budget for that separately if the app icon on a member's phone has to be yours.
Choose Skool if shipping this week matters more than design, since there is no theme or layout to build and both plans share identical features. Run the fee math on your own numbers: Hobby is $9 a month at a 10 percent cut of member payments, and Pro is $99 at 2.9 percent, crossing over at roughly $1,300 a month in member revenue.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
Skool was worth recommending when it was one flat fee, and the two-tier pricing has made it a calculation instead. Run the $1,300 sum against your own numbers before picking a plan, and look at Circle instead if the community needs to look like yours.
