Creatomate renders both video and images from a template by API, from $45 a month billed annually, with credits covering roughly 200 videos or 2,000 images on the entry tier. Placid does images only, thumbnails, quote cards and social previews, from $19 a month for 500 credits with no annual commitment stated. Creatomate's own listing says to compare against an image-only tool if you are not rendering video, since that capability is most of what its price buys. Placid is exactly that comparison.

Video and image templates rendered by API
Creatomate renders finished videos and images from a template and a payload, so a thousand variations of a cover or a promo clip become an automation rather than an afternoon. It works from code or from the no-code automation tools, and a spreadsheet of rows can drive a batch. Credits rather than seats are what a plan buys. Anybody making a handful of graphics by hand will find this expensive and slow to set up.
Our note
Build one real template during the 50-credit trial rather than several simple ones, because the question is whether your design survives being templated and that only becomes clear on something complicated. Compare against an image-only tool if you are not rendering video: the video capability is most of what you are paying for here.

Design once, generate the image every time
Placid turns a template into an endpoint: build the layout once, then hand it a title and a photo and get back a finished image. Thumbnails, quote cards and social previews stop being a task and become part of publishing. It connects to the automation tools and to a site's own code, and credits rather than seats are what a plan buys. Anybody making one image a week does not need this.
Pick Creatomate if any of the templates need to render as video, not just stills, since that is the capability Placid's listing does not claim at all. The entry tier is $45 a month billed annually for roughly 200 videos or 2,000 images against 2,000 credits.
Pick Placid if the output is always a static image and $45 a month is more than the job needs. Basic is $19 a month for 500 credits, and its own listing prices the jump precisely: $20 more takes you to 2,500 credits, then $50 more takes you to 25,000. Unused credits roll over, so a quiet month is not simply lost.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
Estimate generations a month rather than comparing headline prices, because the jump from 500 to 2,500 credits costs $20 and the jump after that costs $50 for ten times as many. For a site publishing daily, the second tier is usually the one that fits.
