Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
Capture One develops RAW files and tethers to a camera, with colour edited by range rather than fixed sliders, from $18 a month or $349 once for a perpetual Pro licence. Evoto does a narrower job at much higher volume: batch retouching skin, teeth, eyes and backgrounds across hundreds of frames at once, priced per photo in annual credit bundles from $89 a year for 800 credits. These solve different steps of the same job rather than competing for the same one: Capture One develops and colour-grades the file, and Evoto is what a volume photographer runs afterward to retouch four hundred of them without four hundred trips through the sliders.

RAW editing and tethering for professionals
Capture One is what photographers move to when Lightroom's colour handling and tethered shooting stop being good enough. The colour editor works on ranges you define rather than on fixed sliders, and tethering to a camera is the feature its users will not give up. It is a professional tool with a professional learning curve, and it still sells a licence you buy once.
Our note
The perpetual licence is the reason to look here rather than at the subscription-only alternatives, and it is worth doing the arithmetic: $349 is about nineteen months of Pro. Buy the subscription if you want the newest camera support the week it ships, and the licence if you do not.

Batch retouching for photographers who shoot volume
Evoto is built for the photographer who comes home with four hundred frames and has to make all of them look the same. Skin, teeth, eyes, background swaps and colour all apply across a selection rather than one image at a time, and the corrections stay adjustable afterwards. It is priced by credits, one per photo, sold in annual bundles. A retoucher working on a single hero image will find nothing here they cannot already do better by hand.
Pick Capture One for the actual RAW development and colour work, especially shooting tethered to a client in the room. Pro is $18 a month, or $349 once for a perpetual licence, about nineteen months of the subscription, worth doing the arithmetic on if new camera support the week it ships does not matter. It is not built to batch-retouch skin and eyes across hundreds of frames the way Evoto is.
Pick Evoto for the volume retouching pass after the RAW edit is done: a wedding or event shoot with hundreds of near-identical corrections to make. Entry is $89 a year for 800 credits, one credit a photo, working out to $0.10 an image, dropping to $0.08 on the next tier up. A photographer delivering a handful of considered hero images will do better work by hand and should not be buying credits at all.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
Work out your credit consumption from one real job before picking a bundle, because the per-credit price falls steeply and buying the wrong tier costs more than the difference between them. The rollover is what makes the annual commitment survivable through a slow season.
