Running the business
BookFunnel and Gumroad both get a digital file to a buyer, but they are built for different moments in a creator's business. BookFunnel delivers a book to any e-reader without a support ticket and folds each download into a mailing list and cross-author promotions, priced by volume from $30 a year for 500 downloads a month. Gumroad puts any file behind a payment link with nothing to set up first, and takes a flat 10 percent of each sale instead of charging a subscription. One is a mailing-list and delivery tool built for authors; the other is a general storefront that takes its cut only when money moves.

Ebook delivery and reader magnets for authors
BookFunnel solves the unglamorous half of giving a book away: getting the file onto a stranger's e-reader without a support email, and adding them to a mailing list on the way. Group promotions with other authors are built in and are where most of its users find readers. Everything is priced by downloads a month rather than by titles.

Sell digital products with almost no setup
Gumroad is the fastest way to put a file behind a payment link. No store to build, no plan to choose, and a flat 10 percent on every sale. That rate is high once you are doing real volume, which is when people usually leave.
Our note
Start here, and do the arithmetic every quarter. The moment 10 percent is more than a competitor's monthly fee plus a lower rate, move. Until then nothing is simpler.

Buy BookFunnel if you give books away to grow a mailing list and want group promotions with other authors built in, not bolted on. It costs $30 a year for 500 downloads a month regardless of whether any money changes hands, rising to $200 a year for 5,000, so it earns its keep once giveaways are a real part of how you find readers.
Buy Gumroad if you are selling a file, book or otherwise, and want nothing to configure before the first sale: no monthly fee, just 10 percent of whatever comes in. That rate does not fall with volume, so check quarterly whether 10 percent of your sales has grown past what a flat subscription like BookFunnel's would cost for the same download count.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
