Images made by mixing other images
Artbreeder works by crossing and nudging images rather than by writing a prompt and hoping, which suits character and portrait work where you want the next version to be nearly the last one. Splicer mixes two pictures, Collager builds from rough shapes you place yourself. Credits meter the fast rendering, and the slower free path stays open when they run out.
Our note
This is the rare image tool where the interface is the product and the model is incidental, so judge it on whether the mixing metaphor suits how you work. If it does, nothing else feels like it; if it does not, no amount of credits will help.
Image and vector generation with style control
Recraft generates raster and vector art, and the reason to pick it over a general image model is that a style can be defined once and reused, so a set of icons or covers comes out looking related. Output on the free plan is public and owned by Recraft. Paid plans move generations to private and hand over commercial rights.
Our note
The free plan is a demo rather than a tier, because you do not own what comes out of it. Budget for Basic from the start if the images are going anywhere public.
