Running the business
Anedot always charges the organisation a published rate: 3.3 percent plus 30 cents for a registered charity, 4.0 percent for anyone else, with no monthly fee either way. Givebutter can drop that to a 0 percent platform fee, but only while donor tips are switched on. Turn tips off and a platform fee applies instead. Both are free to start, so the real difference is who ends up paying the fee: the organisation, or the donor being asked for a tip.

Donation pages with no monthly fee at all
Anedot charges nothing to run donation pages, event pages and lead forms, and takes its cut from the processing rate instead, which makes it one of the few options where a quiet month costs nothing. Team members, pages and transactions are all uncapped. Registered charities pay a lower rate than everybody else, and both rates are published rather than quoted. Nothing here is a donor database, so an organisation wanting segmentation and reporting will end up paying for that separately.
Our note
Push donors towards ACH if your average gift is large, because 0.3 percent against 3.3 percent is the biggest saving available here and most platforms do not offer the choice. Compare the standard 4.0 percent rate carefully if you are not a registered charity, since that is above what several subscription platforms charge once their monthly fee is spread over real volume.
Fundraising that runs on optional tips
Givebutter charges nothing for donation pages, events and its fundraising CRM, and funds itself from a tip donors can choose to add at checkout. Turning tips off swaps them for a platform fee, which is the honest version of free. The paid tier is a marketing add-on rather than the fundraising itself, and most organisations never need it.
Choose Anedot when a predictable, published rate matters more than the chance of paying nothing. 3.3 percent plus 30 cents for a charity is fixed regardless of whether a donor adds anything extra, and unlimited pages and users cost nothing beyond that.
Choose Givebutter when the audience is likely to tip and an events or peer-to-peer campaign is part of the plan. Text-to-give, QR codes and an unlimited free CRM come with the free tier, and the 0 percent platform fee holds as long as tips stay switched on. Turn tips off and a fee replaces them, so the saving depends on donor behaviour, not a guarantee.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The 0 percent platform fee holds only while donor tips are switched on, and a fee applies if they are turned off. The cost moves from the organisation to the donor rather than disappearing, which is the trade to weigh against Donorbox.
