Running the business
Agorapulse is built around the inbox: comments, ad comments, mentions and messages land in one queue a team can assign, answer and close, priced per user from $79 a month. Buffer is built around the queue instead: schedule posts across channels, see what landed, and stay out of the way, priced per channel from $5 a month with a free plan for three. The two solve different jobs. Pick based on which one keeps eating your time: answering people, or publishing to them.

One inbox for every comment and message
Agorapulse treats the social inbox as the main job and scheduling as the thing you do around it. Comments, ad comments, mentions and messages land in one queue that can be assigned, answered and closed, which is the difference between a team of two and a person with eleven tabs open. Reporting is the other half, and it is built to be sent to somebody who did not do the work. Pricing is per user, so the size of the team is what decides the bill.

Schedule posts across every account at once
Buffer queues posts for most networks, suggests times and reports on what landed. The free plan covers three channels, which is enough for a lot of people. It stays out of the way, which is the main thing a scheduler can do.
Our note
Buy it for the calm rather than the features. Per-channel pricing punishes anyone posting everywhere, so count your channels before comparing the headline price with a competitor's flat fee.
Pick Agorapulse if a team is drowning in comments and messages across several accounts and needs to prove the answering happened. The free plan is not a trial, so a small account can stay on it, and Standard at $79 a month per user is the real entry point once assigning and reporting matter, with the bill doubling for every added person rather than every added channel.
Pick Buffer if scheduling is the whole job and the inbox is not the bottleneck. Free covers three channels and ten posts each, and the entry tier is $5 a channel a month, cheap for a small account but adding up fast for an agency posting everywhere. Count channels before comparing its headline price against Agorapulse's per-user number, since the two bills grow along completely different axes.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
