Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
DoorFee gates and sells access to a Discord server specifically, free at 10 percent or $28 a month for Pro's 2.5 percent. Memberful sells subscriptions from a site you already run, most often WordPress, at one flat price: $49 a month plus a 4.9 percent transaction fee, with nothing charged until the first payment arrives. DoorFee only ever serves a Discord community; Memberful never touches Discord at all, keeping members on your own site instead.

Paid Discord memberships with a sales funnel
DoorFee sells access to a Discord server and gives you the pages and email that sell it, which is the half most access tools leave to you. Payments run through Stripe and roles are granted and revoked automatically. The page builder, affiliate program and coupon codes are what separate it from a bare paywall bot.

Paid memberships bolted onto a site you own
Memberful sells memberships from a site you already run rather than moving your audience to a platform, and it is the tool most WordPress publishers reach for when they start charging. One price covers everything and the money is charged on top as a percentage. Nothing is billed until a first payment comes in, so a launch that never launches costs nothing.
Our note
The 4.9 percent is the number to model, because it is charged on revenue rather than on profit: at $2,000 a month collected it is about double the subscription. Against Ghost, which takes nothing, this wins on flexibility and loses on arithmetic once you are large.
Pick DoorFee if the community lives on Discord and needs a sales page, email marketing and abandoned-checkout recovery built around it, none of which Memberful offers. Free takes 10 percent, and Pro's $28 a month drops that to 2.5 percent, which by DoorFee's own math is worth it above roughly $375 a month in revenue.
Pick Memberful if the membership needs to live on a site you already run rather than inside Discord, especially on WordPress. It charges nothing until the first payment lands, then $49 a month plus 4.9 percent, a fee Memberful itself says roughly doubles the subscription's cost once a creator collects around $2,000 a month.
