Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
An S Corp back office for a business of one
Collective exists for one decision: whether a solo business earning well should become an S Corp, and what happens to the paperwork afterwards. It files the election, runs the payroll that election requires, keeps the books and files both returns. The pitch is that the tax saved covers the fee. That only works above a certain income, and the site is direct about which tier suits which stage.
Our note
Do the arithmetic before subscribing: the S Corp tier costs $4,188 a year, so the election has to save more than that to be worth making. Ask about the individual return before you sign, since it is bundled at the cheaper tier and charged as an extra at the dearer one.
Accounting built around UK sole traders
FreeAgent covers invoices, expenses, VAT returns and the self assessment filing a UK sole trader has to do anyway, and it files them with HMRC directly. Bank feeds and receipt capture keep the bookkeeping from piling up into an annual weekend of dread. It is UK-only, so it is no use to anybody filing anywhere else.
Our note
The bank-account route is worth checking before paying. If you already bank with NatWest or hold a Mettle account, this is a full accounting package for nothing, and it is the only offer of that shape in the category.
