Running the business
Claude and Grammarly do different jobs inside the same broad category. Grammarly sits inside whatever box you are already typing in, a browser, an email client, a mobile keyboard, and corrects what is there. Claude is a separate assistant you write and research inside, built for long inputs: a full transcript or document goes in whole on a 200k-token context window, even on the free plan. Grammarly's free plan checks spelling, grammar and tone with 100 AI prompts a month; its Pro plan is $12 a month against Claude Pro's $20.

A writing and reasoning assistant with a long memory
Claude is an assistant built by Anthropic for work that runs long: a full script rather than a paragraph, a spreadsheet of sponsor replies rather than one email. The free plan covers web search, file creation and memory across conversations. Pro adds more usage, unlimited projects, research and the ability to connect Slack and Google Workspace. The context window is 200k tokens on every plan, which in practice means a long transcript or a stack of documents goes in whole rather than in pieces.
Our note
The reason to choose this over the other assistants is usually the context window: work that involves a long document or a full transcript fits without being chopped up first. If your work is short prompts and quick answers, the difference will not show up and the cheaper option wins.
The second pair of eyes on everything you write
Grammarly catches the mistakes that get noticed in a sponsor email or a video description, and it does it inside whatever box you are typing in rather than in a separate app. The free tier covers spelling, grammar and tone. Rewriting, plagiarism detection and the larger prompt allowance sit behind Pro.
Choose Claude for drafting and research that starts from a blank page or a long source: a script, a spreadsheet of replies, twenty variations of the same email. The free plan already includes web search and memory, and Pro at $20 a month adds unlimited projects and more usage.
Choose Grammarly to catch what is wrong in writing you have already done, wherever you typed it. Its free tier is genuinely useful on its own, and Pro at $12 a month, after a 7-day trial, adds full-sentence rewrites and a plagiarism check. It does not help with structure or argument, only with correctness.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
