Making the work
Growing an audience
Running the business
Bonsai bundles proposals, contracts, time tracking and invoicing from $15 a month, with seven days to decide before committing. HoneyBook covers the same sequence, enquiry through signed contract to paid invoice, from $29 a month billed yearly, and backs it with a 60-day refund instead of a short trial. The number that matters is how long you get to run real clients through it before the decision is final, not the plan price itself.

Contracts, proposals and invoices in one place
Bonsai carries the paperwork around freelance and agency work: a proposal, the contract it turns into, the time tracked against it and the invoice at the end, all holding the same client record. It is aimed at service businesses rather than at audiences, which makes it the tool for the half of a creator's income that arrives as brand work. There is no free plan, only a week to decide.
Our note
Worth it the first time a brand disputes what was agreed. Below roughly a deal a month, a contract template and the invoicing in a tool you already pay for cover the same ground for nothing.
Only on this side
Enquiry to contract to paid invoice
HoneyBook keeps a client from first enquiry through proposal, contract and payment in one place, which is aimed squarely at people who currently run that sequence across a form, a document and an invoicing app. Payments are taken inside it at a stated card rate, with a faster payout available for a fee. The plans differ on automation and team seats rather than on whether the basics are there. Anybody whose work is not project-shaped will be paying for a pipeline they do not have.
Choose Bonsai for the cheaper entry point: $15 a month billed monthly, or $9 a month billed annually, for a service business that wants proposals, contracts and invoicing bundled now. Per its own note, it earns its cost the first time a brand disputes what was agreed, though seven days is a short window to prove that out.
Choose HoneyBook when the decision needs more time. Starter is $29 a month billed yearly, and the 60-day full refund is long enough to run actual clients through enquiry, proposal, contract and payment before committing. Payments run inside it at 2.9 percent plus 25 cents a card. Per its own note, anybody whose income is products rather than projects is paying for a pipeline they will never open.

Shaded rows are where the two answers disagree and both listings have answered. A row where one side has not stated a fact is left plain, because silence is not a difference.
Our note
The 60-day refund is worth more than the trial, because two months is long enough to run real clients through it and a trial week is not. Compare against Dubsado on automation specifically, since that is the axis these two actually differ on and both cover the paperwork equally well.
