Templates that turn photos into video
Animoto is the drag-and-drop end of video making: pick a template, drop in photos or clips, and it cuts them to a licensed track. Nobody is editing a documentary in it. It exists for the promo, the recap and the listing tour that would otherwise never get made, and the free plan stamps a watermark on whatever comes out.
Our note
Canva does much of this and a great deal more for similar money when video is one part of a wider design job. Animoto is the better answer when the output is video and only video, and speed is the whole point.

A simple open source video editor
OpenShot is an open source video editor released under the GPL, meant for somebody who wants to cut a clip without first learning a timeline suite. It runs on Linux, Mac and Windows, and the project is funded by donations rather than by a paid tier. It carries fewer features than the heavier free editors, which is the trade you are making.
Our note
Pick this over Shotcut if the simpler interface matters more than the format coverage, and pick neither if you already have DaVinci Resolve installed. The project has been going since 2008, which is worth something in free software.
